Matt Reeves: “The Batman II” Will Be “Better” Than the First Installment

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Matt Reeves says that The Batman II will be a “better” film than the first installment. The script for the film, starring Robert Pattinson, was delivered to DC last month after several years of delay, and filming will begin soon.

Reeves told IndieWire: “I really think this film is better than the previous one. Robert Pattinson feels the same way, we are very excited.”

In another interview with Variety on the red carpet of the Emmy Awards, the filmmaker said that the script of The Batman II will be filmed in early 2026: “We’ll start filming in the spring, maybe late April or early May. It’s been a long road, but I’m incredibly excited. I’m proud of the script that Mattson [Tomlin] and I wrote, and we’ve just sent it to Robert [Pattinson].”

Reeves said the script of The Batman II was sent to Pattinson under strict security measures: “[The script was] put in a hidden case that actually had a lock and a code. [Pattinson] was in New York at the time, and the security was very tight. We trusted Rob because he’s the best.”

In another interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he stated that Batman’s character will take an unexpected turn in the second installment: “What this film does with the character of Batman and Bruce, I don’t think it’s ever been shown like this in any movie.”

Reeves attended the ceremony as the producer and writer of HBO’s The Penguin, which was nominated for 24 Emmy Awards. The first season was produced as a miniseries, but Reeves confirmed negotiations for a second season.

The Batman II is currently scheduled for release in 2027, five years after the first installment’s debut.
